Passport Size Photo Guidelines

Follow the guidelines below for the passport size photo in order to avoid any untoward issue with Malaysian law enforcement officials. The institutions need to communicate the following guidelines to students who are applying for Malaysian study visa. Kindly note that these are important guidelines since the Immigration System will use the same picture as well as print on the i-Kad.

In color and identical, not black and white.


Taken against a WHITE background.


Make sure that the professional photographer will snap your photo.


The photo must be free from reflection or glare on spectacles, the frames of which must not cover the eyes.


The dimensions of the photo must be 45 mm high x 35mm. Please do not cut down the photos from larger pictures.


It should be free from shadows.


Digital enhancements or changes are not acceptable.


It should be taken with the eyes open and clearly visible.


The photo must be taken with nothing covering the face.


As the clothing is visible in the passport photo, subjects should be careful to wear something modest. We recommend that you wear dark colored attire so as to be in clear contrast to the white background.


Taken of the full head, without any covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons.


Facial features must be clearly visible, from the bottom of the chin to the crown of the head.


Note: When scanning and uploading the passport picture please ensure that there is no white border surrounding the photo as this may affect the dimensions of the image. Therefore, please remove the white border before uploading the student’s picture. In the examples below, the one on the left shows the correct proportions. The image on the right shows incorrect proportions.
